It would be most remiss of me not to mention this Kickstarter project from Andrew Lynch, also known as vanshnookenraggen. As well as these great posters, he’s also responsible for the fantastic animated history of the MBTA map that I’ve featured before.
Basically, Andrew is seeking funding for bulk printing of these posters (in effect, your pledge to him is a preorder for the poster(s) of your choice). For every $25 you pledge, you get another poster, all the way up to $225 for the entire set of nine.
Printing won’t start until next year, so they won’t arrive for Christmas, but if you like the look of this (and I sure do!), I strongly encourage you to get behind this project and give what you can. $25 for an awesome NYC subway poster sounds like a good deal to me. I’ve personally pledged $50 to the project and hope you can join me.

Human Sexuality is Complicated
Bon Iver is sitting on the floor in the attic thumbing through a box of family photos. In one, he is 9 years old, standing in front of the woodshed with his father, his buffalo check work shirt and blond hair covered in sawdust. It was the first time dad let him use the lathe. In another, he is 5, roughhousing with his brother in the backyard. He remembers the scrapes and bruises, but none of the pain.
Toward the bottom of the box he finds a photo of his mother when she was young. She is staring straight into the camera, and he feels almost as though she is looking at him. He remembers how she told him that she dreamt of him even before she met his father, how she knew the color of his eyes and the shape of his face and the smell of his skin long before he was born. He wonders whether anyone will ever know him as well as she did. He wonders if he will ever know himself that well.
I rarely post on Sundays, but for this I make an exception.
